COSMECEUTICALS

Cosmeceuticals are products that can act as both cosmetics and medicines and combine cosmetic products with Nutraceuticals ingredients. They are applied topically by rubbing the product on the skin and would normally contain, specific amounts of active ingredients like vitamin C, antioxidants, plant extracts, essential oils and others.

Cosmeceuticals act on multiple layers of the epidermis and are absorbed by the second layer of skin, called the dermis. They are used for a variety of purposes: to remove wrinkles, decrease signs of aging, heal scars, prevent acne, keep the skin moist, and even as sunscreens.

For centuries, cultures, such as Ayurveda have used ingredients like botanicals, milk, honey, herbs and essential oils to prevent aging, treating inflammation, moisturising the skin and protection against sun damage. Today, many Cosmeceutical use or build upon these methods to create new products that act as cosmetic beauty tools and tools to improve skin health and function.

Although the FDA does not recognize Cosmeceuticals as an individual product within the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, Cosmeceuticals are recognised in many other countries as their own type of unique skincare product.
